Information:
Brooklyn' s most exciting houseware store is delighted to offer a culinary arts program that will excite and inspire you. Try learning a new skill, or come and have some fun. See if you can make your home a "Happy Home", too. We continue to offer the Wilton-certified Cake Decorating course, as well as Fruit/Vegetable garnishing, Cookie Decor, Challah Techniques, and Chocolate Candy-Making. AND we've got classes for kids and teens, too. More specialty classes will be offered according to interest: Cake Decorating (Level 3), Fondant, Gum Paste, Tiered Cakes and Miniatures (petit fours, etc). Private parties are also available. To register, call us at 718-692-2442

Policy:
Class Size is limited. Although registration for any course is open until class is full early registration is recommended. Course fees are stated and payable prior to the first class. Missed classes are not refundable. Classes will start on time. Please arrive early to be seated and set up. All tools and materials will be supplied (for class use only) except for Cake Decorating series or when otherwise noted. All edible products used will be Kosher-certified and pareve (unless otherwise noted). Our Cake Decorating Series is Wilton-certified. Students may earn a
Certificate of Completion for each course completed.

About Classes:

Cake Decorating (Level 1)
Instructor: Esther
Sessions: 4


Week 1: How to make icing, cover a cake, layer and level a cake.
Week 2: How to make stars, flowers and other decorative patterns.
Week 3: How to make a three-dimensional clown, a teddy bear and other decorative figures.
Week 4: Decorate a final, finished cake with roses and beautiful touches.


Cake Decorating (Level 2)
Instructor: Esther
Sessions: 4

Week 1: Learn how to make royal icing.
Week 2: Learn how to use and make royal icing flowers.
Week 3: Learn the color flow technique.
Week 4: Complete a finished cake with royal icing and color flow technique.

Cake Decorating (Level 3)
Instructor: Esther
Sessions: 4
Will be offered when there is sufficient interest.

Chocolate
Instructor: Esther
Sessions: 2

This course will include both demonstration and hands-on aspects as timing
and techniques which are both critically important in chocolate making. High
quality imported chocolate will be used.

Week 1: Demonstration: Learn how to temper chocolate
Week 2: Hands-on: Candy-making with molds, fillings, marzipan and praline.

Fruit and Vegetable Garnishing (Level 1)

Sessions: 3

In the first class you will focus on working with fruits, in the next you will work
with vegetables and in the third week you will learn to combine various elements
to make beautiful decorative platters. You may want to consider learning
these skills in order to give healthy holiday baskets or to brighten up your simcha tables!

Challah Baking
Instructor: Esther
Sessions: 1

This class is especially geared for experienced challah-bakers who would like to
learn special braiding and shaping
technique. It is a hands-on course. (P.S. Beginners are welcome, too). You will receive a copy of all the recipes and will be able to take challahs home.

Cookie Decor
Instructor: Esther
Sessions: 1

This is a 2-part class in which you will learn special icing and fondant techniques.
You will immediately able to prepare gorgeous cookies for simchas and gifts. You will receive a copy of all the recipes and will be able to take fresh cookies home.

Middle Eastern Salads
Instructor: Esther
Sessions: 1

This class is both a demonstration and tasting class on different kinds of Middle Eastern salads using Middle Eastern species, nuts, ingredients, and roasting techniques. The salads and dips that will be covered are; Bazerghane, Baba Ghanuge, Tahina, Matbucha, and broiled red pepper salads. You will receive a copy of all the recipes and will be able to take salads home.

Pies & Tarts

Sessions: 1

Learn how to make perfect pie dough and use it to make crust, different kinds of covers and lattice tops. Apple pies, blueberry pies and tarts will be made in the class. You will receive a copy of all the recipes and will be able to take pies home. There will be demonstrations and hand on time.


Low Carb Cooking

Our goal is to create an enjoyable experience while learning how to cook Kosher with skill and style. Unless otherwise noted, classes are appropriate for both the novice and experienced cook.
Even veteran cooks can learn a few new techniques! We emphasize learning by doing - hands on- along with demonstration and discussion. Recipes and other printed matter will be shared, as well. Class size is set to allow for maximal individual attention. All ingredients will be Certified Kosher, Chassidishe Shechita. and Cholov Yisroel. All tools and materials will be provided for class use (only).


You will learn how to create great food and lose weight at the same time. Learn new cooking methods, enjoy eating without the guilt. Class will cover cooking and baking techniques.

Low Fat Cooking

Our goal is to create an enjoyable experience while learning how to cook Kosher with skill and style. Unless otherwise noted, classes are appropriate for both the novice and experienced cook.

Learn about healthy eating for the whole family and discover great new recipes with new ways to cut the fat and calories out of your favorite foods without giving up taste. Class will cover cooking and baking principles.

Kallah Cuisine

Our goal is to create an enjoyable experience while learning how to cook Kosher with skill and style. Unless otherwise noted, classes are appropriate for both the novice and experienced cook.
Even veteran cooks can learn a few new techniques! We emphasize learning by doing - hands on- along with demonstration and discussion. Recipes and other printed matter will be shared, as well. Kallah Cooking (for engaged or newly married)
This class will introduce any beginner cook to the kitchen. You will earn how to plan meals and prepare for Shabbos step-by-step, cover how to make homemade challah, shop for food, knife skills, helpful hints, great recipes and fun that will help you organize your time and feel confident in your new role. Class limited to 12 students.

Simchah Planning & Cooking

Sessions: 2

Our goal is to create an enjoyable experience while learning how to cook Kosher with skill and style. Unless otherwise noted, classes are appropriate for both the novice and experienced cook.
Even veteran cooks can learn a few new techniques! We emphasize learning by doing - hands on- along with demonstration and discussion. Recipes and other printed matter will be shared, as well. Class size is set to allow for maximal individual attention. All ingredients will be Certified Kosher, Chassidishe Shechita. and Cholov Yisroel. All tools and materials will be provided for class use (only).

This is a 2 session course. You will learn how to plan and cook meals in your home for 20-100 people. . Learn how to cook in volume with ease. What to cook ahead, what to freeze, how to set the table, plate presentation to serve with style, make fruit platters, menu ideas, and great tips. Class limited to 12 participants.

Culinary Skill Basics

Sessions: 8

Our goal is to create an enjoyable experience while learning how to cook Kosher with skill and style. Unless otherwise noted, classes are appropriate for both the novice and experienced cook.
Even veteran cooks can learn a few new techniques! We emphasize learning by doing - hands on- along with demonstration and discussion. Recipes and other printed matter will be shared, as well. Class size is set to allow for maximal individual attention. All ingredients will be Certified Kosher, Chassidishe Shechita. and Cholov Yisroel. All tools and materials will be provided for class use (only).

The curriculum parallels that taught in the well-known professional culinary schools, and indeed we will use their textbook with modifications for kashruth. Each of the weekly 3 hour sessions will have a different focus and will include both demonstration and hands-on activities. Instruction in cooking methods will be integrated with learning about ingredients. At course end, students will be proficient in basic professional food selection, prep and cooking skills. Class limited to 10 students.

Week 1 -Knife skills (including salad-making)
Week 2 -Stocks, sauces, and soups
Week 3 -Meat and poultry
Week 4 -Fish
Week 5 -Vegetables, potatoes, grains, pasta
Week 6 -Basic baking

Week 8 -"Gardmanger" - Presentation

Girls' Baking Workshop
Instructor: Gail
Sessions: Every Sunday - New Project

Demonstrations and hands on activities including cookie design, cake decorating
and special tricks to impress your friends, and more! Girls' classes are designed for 8-1/2 to
12 years old. Every class begins a new project and can be taken in any order. Each class is a two hours long. You will receive a copy of all the recipes and will be able to take the treats home.

Some of our projects are;
1. Cake - Learn the basics of cake decorating including making icing, frosting and decorating cakes.
2. Make different cake designs including; shells, rosette, zig zag and more.
3. Learn to transfer any picture onto your cake and decorate.
4. Learn to make figures including teddy bears, birds and more.
5. Learn to make more figures including clowns and balloons.
6. Make different kinds of flowers including drop, swirls and leaves.
7. Make a doll cake with ruffles, bows and laces.
8. Make more types of flowers including roses, sweet peas and daisies.
9. Make Basket weave, rope border, and reverse shell designs.
10. Cookies - Make cookie dough, bake and decorate with royal icing using a toothpick technique to make special effects and more.
11. Cookies - Make cookie dough, bake and decorate with piped-on color, stained glass, jam windows, candy jewels, create blossom shaped and marble dough cookies.
12. Hanukah Candy House - put together and decorate a beautiful house covered in icing and candies.


Teens' Baking Workshop

Sessions: Every Sunday - New Project

Demonstrations and hands on activities including cookie design, cake decorating
